This is a beautiful example of a mid period R129 SL, in a gorgeous and sought-after colour scheme that suits the model so well. It is particularly desirable in having the earlier M104 straight-six engine, which most people consider to be smoother and less costly to maintain than the V6 which followed it.
It was supplied new by Normand Mercedes of London in January 1995 to a local owner, and had a further three owners during the first five years of its life. In July 2000 the latest owner, a retired gentleman from near Hull, purchased it from Westway Mercedes of Hull at a mileage of around 41,000. He has owned it for 20 years until now, and has only increased the mileage by 22,000 during that period. It has always been a second or third car In the household, used only for weekend and holiday trips, which goes some way to explaining its lovely condition. He is now quite elderly and only does a small amount of local motoring in a small hatchback, so this beautiful vehicle is available to a new owner.
Servicing has always been carried out at the correct intervals, with three stamps in the book from the supplying dealer, 14 from MB dealers in Southport and Hull, two from an independent MB specialist near Hull and one from a non-franchised garage. As well as the fully completed service book we have every MOT certificate back to 2000 and many service and repair invoices.
This car is a pleasure to drive, with instant response and ample power, as befits the fastidious maintenance regime which has been followed. All physical and cosmetic aspects of the car are in superb condition, and it will be admired wherever it goes. The remaining pool of high quality R129 SL roadsters is now quite small, and price pressure from the earlier R107 models is causing values to increase from a low base on a significant upward curve. Now could be the time to buy something which will not only be a pleasure to own and drive, but also an astute investment for the future.
We have carried out a comprehensive mechanical check of the car in our own workshop. Any faults found have been remedied, and any required maintenance has been carried out. A schedule of this work will be supplied with the car, along with our own warranty, details of which can be supplied on request.
