This is one of only 557 E320 cabriolets officially imported to the UK, and is even rarer than that statistic suggests by being one of the very few to be specified with the desirable Sportline option, comprising lowered and uprated springs, uprated dampers, roll bars and bushes, wider wheels and tyres, higher geared steering rack and special badging. It is also equipped with a very high options list. It has a very classic look in its immaculate silver metallic paint with dark grey lower panels, which contrast beautifully with the blue leather interior and blue soft top, which was renewed with an O.E. Quality replacement three years ago.
The car was supplied new by Bargate Mercedes-Benz of Boston, Lincolnshire, in August 1996 to a local owner, making it one of the very last of this model to be registered. It subsequently had two owners in Kent before going to an owner in London in 2002 via Rawsons Mercedes-Benz of Sevenoaks. At the time he purchased it the mileage stood at 34,000. He kept it for 12 years until 2014, and added a further 29,000 miles in that time, taking the total up to 63,000. At that point we purchased it and supplied it to a keen enthusiast near Grantham, where it joined his collection of Mercedes and Ferrari classics. He has only done 7,000 miles in the time he has owned it, and has now reluctantly parted with it to fund the purchase of a Maserati, so it is once more available to a new owner.
Each owner has taken the upkeep of the car very seriously, and the service history is excellent, with a total of 18 stamps in the service book, mostly at much less than the recommended 9,000 mile intervals. Six are from MB dealers, nine from an independent MB specialist, one from an independent Jaguar specialist and two from a classic car specialist. In addition we have all MOT records back to 2001 and many service and maintenance invoices on file.
The physical condition is superb throughout, with all fixtures and fittings in full working order. It drives beautifully and feels like a much younger car.
We have carried out a comprehensive mechanical check of the car in our own workshop. Any faults found have been remedied, and any required maintenance has been carried out. A schedule of this work will be supplied with the car, along with our own warranty, details of which can be supplied on request.
