This car represented the pinnacle of Mercedes-Benz technology and build quality when it was supplied new in 1998, and it is fitted with virtually every comfort and safety option then available. It still outclasses most other cars in terms of comfort, refinement, performance and presence on the road. When the model was new many thought its styling quite brutal, but the years have mellowed its appearance, and compared to the latest offerings from the prestige brands it looks rather elegant. The unusual deep metallic blackberry paintwork gives the car an understated but imposing look, contrasting perfectly with the unmarked soft grey leather interior.

It was registered new in January 1998 by Mercedes-Benz Headquarters in Milton Keynes, presumably as a staff vehicle. Within a year it had gone to its first private owner near Solihull, and in February 2000 it went to a lady near Derby. In December of that year it was purchased by a senior partner in a London accountancy practice and he owned it for 19 years until 2019. We then sold it to a director of a pharmaceutical company and he has owned it until now. He has loved the car, but now has a hankering for a convertible, so we have exchanged it for a W124 convertible and this lovely coupe is once again available to a new owner.

The service history for this car is impeccable, with 19 stamps in the book all from Mercedes-Benz dealers or independent specialists. The same well known independent MB specialist has serviced it continuously since the latest owner purchased the car in 2000. We have almost every service invoice from 18,000 miles to date, mostly carried out at strict annual intervals even when the mileage covered was low, every MOT certificate and every invoice for non-scheduled repairs and maintenance. This shows a dedication to maintaining the car regardless of expense. The car will be serviced in our own workshop prior to sale.

As well as always being properly maintained at low mileage intervals the car has been very well looked after physically. Every aspect of bodywork, paint, brightwork, glass, wheels and trim are immaculate, with hardly any detectable wear. Since the penultimate owner acquired the car it lived in perfect storage conditions in the underground car park attached to his Docklands penthouse apartment, and has only been used for journeys out of town. The latest owner has hardly used it at all, in fact for most of its time with him we have stored it on his behalf.

From behind the wheel the impression is of smooth silent perfection, with ample space and every comfort for four passengers over any distance. Cruising is effortless and acceleration very impressive, with just a distant V8 growl when progress becomes more urgent. By contrast, slow speed handling is very precise, and thanks to the very tight turning circle, speed sensitive power steering and light throttle the car feels much smaller than it really is when maneuvering.

This is a very special car, and one which will be a lasting pleasure for its new owner. The number of top condition, low mileage examples of this model remaining is now very small, which can only mean that its value will increase in future years provided it is looked after in the way that it has been accustomed.

We have carried out a comprehensive mechanical check of the car in our own workshop. Any faults found have been remedied, and any required maintenance will be carried out (see above). A schedule of this work will be supplied with the car, along with our own warranty, details of which can be supplied on request.
