This beautiful car was supplied new by Gerard Mann Mercedes-Benz of Birmingham in April 1986 to a prominent Scottish businessman who was also a director and major shareholder of Aberdeen FC. We don’t know how long he owned it or who the second owner was (it may have been a company to private transfer with the same keeper), but in February 1988, with 18,000 miles covered, it went to its third owner, a lady in County Durham. She kept it until April 2004.
The fourth and latest owner, a wealthy industrialist and prolific classic car collector from Swansea, owned it from 2004 until his recent death. Unlike the many vintage Bentleys, Bugattis, Rolls-Royces etc in his collection he bought this one with the intention of using it regularly, but unfortunately a busy work life and latterly poor health meant that it spent most of the 14 years he owned it in a dehumidified CarCoon, occasionally exercised by his curator but only covering six thousand miles in that time.
It has been serviced at the correct mileages throughout its life, though not always every year due to the low mileages covered. There are 11 stamps in the book from franchised Mercedes dealers and one from the classic Mercedes specialist who supplied it to its third keeper. In addition we have several recent service invoices and most MoT records since it was liable for testing. We will service it before handover to its new owner, so it will be ready for a further 6,000 miles before any scheduled attention is needed.
Condition throughout is immaculate and the car drives beautifully as befits its low mileage. It shows every sign of having been cherished by all four of its owners. One particular rarity for a 30+ year old example is that the original soft top is still in place and looking virtually as-new, with the original plastic windows showing no sign of clouding or distortion.
Top quality examples of this model have been increasing steadily in value over recent years, and this trend shows no sign of slowing. Superb examples such as this one can therefore be thought of as a sound investment which is also a lovely thing to own and use.
We have carried out a comprehensive mechanical check of the car in our own workshop. Any faults found have been remedied, and any required maintenance has been carried out. A schedule of this work will be supplied with the car, along with our own warranty, details of which can be supplied on request.
