We have a particularly liking for the W124 estate cars (we have one of our own), as they are now firmly recognised as a classic model, but are such practical and usable machines that they will fulfil just about any purpose that a motor vehicle can be put to. Unfortunately we don’t find many that are in the condition we would want to purchase these days. Having the above qualities most of them have led a very hard life and are now well past their best.
This lovely and well-optioned example was supplied new by Charles Sidney Mercedes-Benz of Bradford to a company director in Leeds, who only kept it for 16 months. Its second and latest owner was managing director of a clothing wholesaler in Keighley, who bought it initially with the intention of keeping it three years, but loved it so much that he has owned it for 27 years until now. It has been his daily 
car for all that time, though having been retired for over 20 years his annual milage has latterly been quite low. Now in his mid 80s he has reluctantly downsized to a small hatchback for local running about. He is not what would be termed a car enthusiast, in fact this is the only Mercedes he has ever owned, but he is a lover of nicely made things and is passionate about looking after them, hence the beautiful condition that this car has been kept in.
The servicing regime has been truly remarkable, with 36 stamps in the book over 29 years. Nineteen of them are from the supplying dealer, eight from an independent MB specialist in Leeds and the remaining nine from an independent MB specialist in Skipton. In addition he has compiled a schedule of every penny that has been spent on the car whilst in his ownership, right down to dashboard bulbs, but also including recent significant items such as wiring loom, two new front wings, head gasket, alternator, water pump and radiator.It is not an exaggeration to say that no expense has been spared in keeping this car in tip top condition.
The car is extremely solid and looks superb, the immaculate metallic black paintwork providing a subtle and elegant contrast with the almost unmarked grey leather interior. It drives like a much younger car, with all controls tight and precise, which we believe is due to the careful maintenance it has received over the years.
We have carried out a comprehensive mechanical check in our own workshop. Any faults found have been remedied, and any required maintenance has been carried out. Invoices for this work will be supplied with the car, along with our own warranty, details of which can be supplied on request.
