This is one of only 557 E320 cabriolets officially imported to the UK, and is even rarer than that statistic suggests by being one of the few to be specified with the desirable Sportline option, comprising lowered and uprated springs, uprated dampers, roll bars and bushes, wider wheels and tyres, higher geared steering rack and special badging. It has a high specification with most options present. Combined with its low mileage, beautiful condition, and being in one of the most sought-after colour combinations this makes it a very desirable car.
The car was supplied new to an owner in Essex by Waterhouse Mercedes-Benz of Chelmsford in January 1994, and he owned it for 12 years until 2006. During this time it was serviced 11 times by the supplying dealer and twice by Mercedes-Benz of Bishops Stortford, by which time it had covered approximately 51,000 miles.
It was then purchased on our behalf by a Mercedes enthusiast friend of ours in London and registered to him for a few months, after which we sold it to a retired gentleman near Coventry. He purchased it as a weekend indulgence and covered less than 10,000 miles during his six years of ownership, the car spending most of its time under a dust cover in the well-ventilated garage at his Warwickshire home.
Despite the low mileage covered he did not skimp on maintenance, and had it serviced twice by a trusted local garage and twice by a local independent Mercedes specialist. All invoices from this period are on file.
In 2013 we bought it back from him and supplied it to a director of a microbrewery in Lyme Regis. He used it regularly for business trips around the country and covered a very enjoyable 33,000 miles over his six years ownership until now. He had it serviced four times by a trusted local garage, and again we have the invoices for these visits, plus several other non-scheduled repairs, on file.
His business mileage is now about to increase significantly and he has regrettably decided to transfer to a more modern car, so we jumped at the chance of buying it back and it is now once more available to a new owner.
The physical condition is superb throughout, with all fixtures and fittings in full working order. It drives beautifully and feels like a much younger car.
We have carried out a comprehensive mechanical check of the car in our own workshop. Any faults found have been remedied, and any required maintenance has been carried out. A schedule of this work will be supplied with the car, along with our own warranty, details of which can be supplied on request.
