We don’t often find W124 coupes with such a low mileage as this one these days, and almost never the original pre-facelift versions as here. The simple reason is that they are such capable and usable cars that owners generally can’t resist driving them! Even though they are extremely durable and withstand high mileages like few other cars, there is no mistaking the crispness and sharpness of a pampered low mileage example.
This one is absolutely gorgeous in its metallic mid-blue paintwork with contrasting cream leather interior, and is in unbelievably pristine condition throughout, looking much better than most four year old cars rather than the 24 year old it actually is.
It was supplied new by Lancaster Mercedes-Benz of Sheffield in November 1992 to its first owner, the proprietor of a transport company in Pontefract. We have all pre-sale documentation including the new car order form and delivery invoice in the sum of £36,577.
The owner retired shortly after buying the car and it was kept for special journeys only, the bulk of the everyday mileage being covered by his wife’s runabout. As a result it led a very sheltered and pampered existence for its entire life, having a heated double garage all to itself at his rural home.
By 2014, with the car covering only a few hundred miles per annum and the total mileage standing at around 46,000, he decided the time had come to let somebody else enjoy it. We purchased it and supplied it to a Mercedes enthusiast near Edinburgh, where it shared a garage with his SL500. He had intended to keep them indefinitely, but a recent unexpected house move left him without a garage, so he has reluctantly parted with both his cars.
For most of its life it has been serviced by the supplying dealer, with eight of their stamps in the book taking it up to 32,000 miles. We have almost every service and maintenance invoice on file from this period. Lancaster ceased trading in Sheffield sometime in the early 2000s, so thereafter it was regularly serviced by a local garage or a skilled mechanic well known to the owner, even though it was covering hardly any annual mileage by that time. We brought the servicing right up to date, and will do so again before it goes to its new owner, even though it has only covered 3,000 miles since we last sold it. so it will be ready for a further 6,000 miles before any scheduled attention is due. As well as the above documentation we also have on file every MOT certificate since the car was new.
This gem will suit the avid collector perfectly, and if other Mercedes models are anything to go by it will become ever more sought-after as the years go by, due to its original specification and superb quality. The purchaser of this beautiful car will have a possession of lasting quality and increasing rarity, which will be a delight to own and drive for many years to come.
We have carried out a comprehensive mechanical check of the car in our own workshop. Any faults found have been remedied, and any required maintenance has been carried out (see above). Invoices for this work will be supplied with the car, along with our own warranty, details of which can be supplied on request.
