This gorgeous and increasingly rare vehicle was supplied new to a lady in Bristol. She opted for the factory collection scheme and took delivery personally at the Mercedes-Benz Sindelfingen customer handover centre in December 1978. It was registered in the UK in January 1979, and stayed in the Bristol area with several owners until 1997. During this period it was subjected to regular sparing use of between 1,000 and 3,000 miles per annum, which took the mileage up to around 24,000.
In 1997 it went to a new owner in the Reading area, who seems to have kept it until 2012, only adding around 18,000 miles during this fifteen year period. After this it was owned for two years by the proprietor of a construction company in Bude, Cornwall, who only covered around 1,000 miles per annum in it. The latest owner, a retired lawyer from 
Shrewsbury, purchased it from a classic car specialist in Chester in July 2014 with around 48,000 miles on the clock, and has covered under 4,000 miles in his five year tenure. He is now advancing in years and has decided to reduce his classic car collection, so it is once more available to a new owner.
Servicing has generally been carried out at very low mileage intervals, and in no case has there been more than 6,000 miles between services. There are 16 stamps in the service book; five from MB dealers, three from independent MB specialists and the remainder from non-franchised garages. We will service it before handover to its new owner, so it will be ready for a further 6,000 miles before any scheduled attention is needed.
The car has been cherished by each of its owners and it is in superb condition inside and out, as befits the modest mileage covered and the fastidious maintenance regime which has been followed. It is a delight to drive and it looks and feels like a much younger car.
Values of this model have been climbing steadily over recent years as the rarity of the coupe in comparison with the convertible version has come to be appreciated, and they show no sign of abating. Superb examples such as this one can therefore be purchased as a lovely thing to own and use, and also a sound long term investment.
We have carried out a comprehensive mechanical check of the car in our own workshop. Any faults found have been remedied, and any required maintenance has been carried out. A schedule of this work will be supplied with the car, along with our own warranty, details of which can be supplied on request.
