This is one of only 557 E320 cabriolets officially imported to the UK, and is even rarer than that statistic suggests by being one of the very few to be specified with the desirable Sportline option, comprising lowered and uprated springs, uprated dampers, roll bars and bushes, wider wheels and tyres, higher geared steering rack and special badging. The metallic Ruby Red paintwork (not to be confused with the much lighter Almandine Red) is a luscious deep burgundy hue, which imparts a very elegant look to the car, especially with the subtle cream/beige leather interior.
The car was supplied new by Road Range Mercedes-Benz of Liverpool in January 1996, the final year of production of this model, to a vehicle finance company based in Edinburgh. It was presumably leased by a customer in Liverpool, as the early service history until its only change of ownership was all with the supplying dealer. In June 1999, with the mileage standing at around 31,000, it went to its second and latest owner, a telecomms engineer based in Solihull. He has kept it until now as one of several cars in the household, always garaged and only used for high days and holidays.
The service history is excellent, with a total of 22 stamps in the service book. Five are from the supplying Mercedes-Benz dealer, one from Mercedes-Benz of Solihull, one from a non-franchised garage and the remaining 15 from the same independent Mercedes specialist in Birmingham. Most of the servicing has been done on an annual basis at much less than the recommended 9,000 mile intervals, with at an overall average mileage interval of less than half that. In addition we have every old MOT certificate back to 2003.
The physical condition is superb throughout, with all fixtures and fittings in full working order. It drives beautifully and feels like a much younger car.
We have carried out a comprehensive mechanical check of the car in our own workshop. Any faults found have been remedied, and any required maintenance has been carried out. A schedule of this work will be supplied with the car, along with our own warranty, details of which can be supplied on request.
