This model was the epitome of Mercedes’ car-building art when it first emerged from Stuttgart in 1991, and was the favoured transport of royalty, pop stars, captains of industry and high ranking politicians. Its Bruno Sacco styled shape was thought by many to be quite brutal when it was first released, but in the present day when viewed alongside many current model executive cars it looks quite elegant.
In real terms it has seldom been surpassed since then in terms of comfort and driveability, and its creamy smooth 4.2 litre V8 engine means that it is no slouch when it comes to performance. What it most definitely has that no model from Mercedes-Benz or any other manufacturer has since contained is the legendary build quality that has been sadly lacking in later models.
The number of well cared for, low mileage W140 saloons remaining in circulation is getting very low. The ones that do still exist are now being appreciated by enthusiasts in quite a different way than when they were new, as their deeper qualities are being recognised. Even though they are extremely durable and withstand high mileages like few other cars, they do still respond to sympathetic use and comprehensive maintenance, and there is nothing to compare with the quality of a cherished low mileage example such as this.
It looks very striking in the unusual (for a large car) metallic deep green paintwork with contrasting Mushroom leather interior, and this colour combination should be able to satisfy the tastes of most buyers. All parts of it are in superb condition, completely belying its 20 years of age.
It was supplied new as a UK personal import to a prominent Cypriot citizen who is a construction magnate in his home country. It has been kept at his Park Lane, London apartment until now, as his personal transport whenever he visited the UK.
Servicing has been carried out from day one exclusively by Klasse of Fulham, a very well established independent Mercedes specialist (also Cypriot owned), and has always been done annually or biennially at very small mileage intervals. There are a total of 12 of their stamps in the service book, and we have every MoT certificate since the car was liable for testing.
This imposing and highly optioned car will suit the discerning enthusiast perfectly, and as well as being a superb mode of transport it will be a talking point wherever it goes. It will be a delight to own and drive for many years to come. The fact that it comes at a tiny fraction of its original purchase price, for what is not far off the quality of a brand new car, is a welcome bonus.
We have carried out a comprehensive mechanical check of the car in our own workshop. Any significant faults found have been remedied, and any required maintenance has been carried out. A schedule of this work will be supplied with the car, along with our own warranty, details of which can be supplied on request.
