This lovely SL looks understated and discreet in its unmarked deep blue paint finish, which shows off the gorgeous R129 shape to perfection. The pristine cream leather interior provides the perfect contrast to the dark exterior and gives the cabin a bright airy feeling. Being an SL500 it is very well optioned, with nothing left wanting in the specification. All aspects of the car are in superb condition.
The car was supplied new in November 1994 by Derwent Mercedes-Benz of Leeds to a local owner who kept it for nine years until 2003, by which time it had only covered 27,000 miles. It was then purchased from an independent Mercedes specialist in Lichfield by a gentleman near Burton-on-Trent who kept it for just over a year, after which it went to the proprietor of a car body repair business in Shrewsbury. He kept it for two years until 2006, at which time we supplied it to a structural engineer from Lymm, Cheshire, with a total of 55,000 miles covered. In the nine years he owned it he always kept it as a third car in the household, stored in a heated garage and used sparingly for holidays and special trips, at an average of around 2,500 miles per annum. When he went to work abroad in May 2016 we bought it back and supplied it to a semi-retired gentleman local to us with the mileage standing at 79,000. He has applied a similar usage pattern to the previous owner and has only covered two thousand miles during his two years of ownership, having two other cars in the household to do the daily mileage. He now has a requirement for a four seater, so we have supplied him with a W124 cabriolet and this gorgeous SL is now once more available to a new owner.
Servicing with the first owner was almost always carried out by the supplying dealer, with seven of their stamps in the book and one from a MB dealer in Manchester. It was then serviced twice by the independent MB specialist in Lichfield who supplied it to the third owner, and with the fourth owner four times by independent MB specialists in Stockport and Warrington. With the latest owner it has been serviced twice by our own workshop. It has always been serviced at less than the manufacturer’s recommended interval. As well as the fully completed service book we have every MOT certificate since the car was three years old and many of the service and repair invoices.
Everything is as it should be to give evidence of careful maintenance and sympathetic use by each owner. As far as we can tell it has always been part of a multi car household, used mainly for special trips and well cared for, which explains its beautiful condition.
It is a pleasure to drive, with instant response and ample power from the creamy smooth V8 engine. All controls are taut and responsive as befits the fastidious maintenance regime which has been followed.
We have carried out a comprehensive mechanical check of the car in our own workshop. Any faults found have been remedied, and any required maintenance has been carried out. A schedule of this work will be supplied with the car, along with our own warranty, details of which can be supplied on request.
