This lovely classic saloon, built the year before the model was discontinued, was purchased new in 1984 from Rivervale Mercedes-Benz of Brighton, and we have the original new car order form in the sum of £13,557.54 (over £60,000 adjusted for inflation!). It was delivered to an elderly lady living locally, and was serviced by the supplying dealer until 1989, with seven of their stamps in the book. After this there are six stamps from the well known John Haynes independent Mercedes specialists in Worthing and another three from an independent Mercedes specialist near Brighton.
In 2002, after 18 years of ownership and with the mileage at 90,000, the original owner died and left the car to the couple who were her housekeepers and who had always admired the car. Until this point the car averaged around 5,000 miles per annum in an unvarying pattern, and all servicing was carried out at the correct mileage intervals with not much more than a year in between. The second owners only used the car for special journeys and always kept it garaged. In the six years of their ownership it covered only four thousand miles. In 2008 the car was purchased by a classic Mercedes enthusiast on the Wirral, where it joined his collection of mainly W123 cars. He covered 2,000 miles during his year of ownership, but reluctantly has now had to sell it due to lack of storage space. He had it serviced at his trusted local garage shortly after he acquired it, so it still has 4,000 miles to go before a service is due.
Considerable sums have been spent over the years keeping this car in top condition. It looks superb in the metallic pale gold colour, and could easily pass for a much younger vehicle. The paintwork is extremely good, the velour interior is virtually unmarked, and all fittings and equipment are present and working.
It drives beautifully, with the smooth and relaxing style which is particular to well maintained W123 Mercedes cars, and the rare velour interior (which cost the same as leather when new) gives an extra feeling of luxury. This model truly did represent a milestone of quality for Mercedes-Benz, and there are not many cars, either modern or classic, which give the same feeling of wellbeing to the occupants on journeys of any distance.
We have commissioned a comprehensive mechanical check of the car by our independent Mercedes-Benz specialist. Any faults found have been remedied, and any required maintenance has been carried out. Invoices for this work will be supplied with the car, along with our own warranty, details of which can be supplied on request.
