This very
highly specified SL in the classic silver paint finish with black leather and the
AMG split-rim style alloys looks very dynamic and purposeful. The panoramic
hardtop lends it an extra dimension of space and airiness in the cabin even
when it is not possible to drive with the hood down. All aspects of the car including
mechanics, paintwork, trim, soft top, wheels and tyres are in top condition.
The car is unbadged, and the factory data card confirms that it was ordered
like this from new, but should the new owner wish it to be identifiable as a
500 the correct badge can be fitted.
The car
was supplied new by Monarch Mercedes-Benz of Tamworth
to the footballer Dwight Yorke during his time with Aston Villa. He kept it for
just over a year, after which it went to a gentleman from Burton-on-Trent. In June 2010 he transferred
it into his girlfriend's name, and between them they have owned it until now.
Servicing
for the first six years of the car's life was done by the supplying dealer,
with six of their stamps in the book. After that there are two stamps from a
well known independent Mercedes specialist in Birmingham
and one from a motorsport specialist in Bournemouth.
This was only around 1,000 miles ago, but since it was over a year ago we have
had it serviced again by our independent Mercedes specialist. The average
actual service interval for the car's entire life has been under 7,000 miles,
as against the manufacturer's recommended 9,000.
It is a
delight to drive, with all controls taut and responsive as befits the
fastidious maintenance regime which has been followed and the sparing use it
has had. The five litre V8 engine is creamy-smooth with a superb exhaust note.
It has a seamless wave of torque on acceleration which gets the hairs on the
back of the neck standing to attention, with handling to match. Despite this it
is as docile and vice-free as can be when driven sedately.
We have
commissioned a comprehensive mechanical check of the car by our independent
Mercedes-Benz specialist. Any faults found have been remedied, and any required
maintenance has been carried out (see above). Invoices for this work will be
supplied with the car, along with our own warranty, details of which can be
supplied on request.
