This car represented the pinnacle of Mercedes-Benz technology and build quality when it was supplied new in 1994, and it is fitted with virtually every comfort and safety option then available. It still outclasses virtually everything else in terms of comfort, refinement, performance and sheer presence on the road. When the model was new many thought its styling quite brutal, but the years have mellowed its appearance, and compared to the latest offerings from the prestige brands it looks rather elegant. The pristine metallic grey paintwork gives the car a very understated but imposing look, matching perfectly with the unmarked soft grey leather interior which is a few shades lighter.
It was supplied new in September 1994 by Mercedes-Benz of Edgware Road, London to the managing director of a major marketing consultancy in London, who kept it for eight years. During his ownership it was serviced four times by the supplying dealer, three times by Mercedes-Benz of Sunningdale and once by Normand Mercedes-Benz of Mayfair, which took it to around 36,000 miles. In 2002 it was purchased by a gentleman in Reigate, Surrey, then in 2003 it moved again to a gentleman in St Leonards-on-Sea, Sussex, where it shared garage space with a collection of prestige cars. This owner kept the car for six years but only covered around 10,000 miles in it during that time. The MoT records show that for the last four years of his ownership it was hardly used at all. Nevertheless he had it serviced three times by an independent prestige car specialist in Hastings while he owned it. In 2009 it briefly passed to a motor dealer in Hailsham, Sussex, before going to its latest owner; a South African gentleman based in Northampton. He is now planning to return to his native country, so regrettably he has had to part with this lovely car. We have had it serviced by our independent Mercedes specialist so it is now ready for a further 9,000 miles before any scheduled maintenance is due.
The service history for this car is second to none. We have every service invoice from 12,000 miles to date, several MoT certificates as far back as 2002 and a thick file of invoices for non-scheduled repairs, maintenance and parts dating back to when the car was new, showing a dedication to maintaining the car regardless of expense by all of its owners. In addition we have the first owner’s handwritten log detailing every item of expenditure during his eight years of ownership. On average the car has been serviced every 5,000 miles as against the manufacturer’s recommended 9,000.
As well as always being properly maintained at frequent intervals the car has been very well looked after physically. Every aspect of bodywork, paint, glass, wheels and trim are immaculate, with no detectable wear to the interior appointments.
From behind the wheel the impression is of smooth silent perfection, with ample space and every comfort for four passengers over any distance. Handling is very sharp thanks to the AMG suspension and alloy wheels (wider at the rear) with low profile tyres. Cruising is absolutely effortless and acceleration very impressive, with just a distant V8 growl when progress becomes more urgent. By contrast, slow speed handling is very precise, and thanks to the very tight turning circle, speed sensitive power steering and light throttle the car feels much smaller than it really is when maneuvering. This is a very special car, and one which will be a lasting pleasure for its new owner.
We have commissioned a comprehensive mechanical check of the car by our independent Mercedes specialist. Any faults found have been remedied, and any required maintenance has been carried out (see above). Invoices for this work will be supplied with the car, along with our own warranty, details of which can be supplied on request.
