This car represented the pinnacle of Mercedes-Benz technology and build
quality when it was supplied new in 1997, and it is fitted with virtually every
comfort and safety option then available. It still outclasses virtually
everything else in terms of comfort, refinement, performance and sheer presence
on the road. When the model was new many thought its styling to be quite
brutal, but the years have mellowed its appearance, and compared to the latest
offerings from the prestige brands it looks rather elegant. The pristine dark
blue paintwork gives the car a very understated but imposing look, matching
perfectly with the unmarked soft grey leather interior.
It was supplied new in September 1997 by Vardy Continental Mercedes-Benz
of Cambridge to
a local gentleman who kept it for five years. During his ownership it was
serviced four times by the supplying dealer under the variable service interval
system, which took it to around 40,000 miles. In 2002 it briefly passed to a
gentleman near Great Yarmouth, then in the same year to the third and latest
owner in Lowestoft. This owner has kept the
car for ten years until now, covering a further 40,000 miles in it during that
time. Servicing with the latest owner has been by Robinsons Autostar (later to
become Mercedes-Benz of Norwich) with two of
their stamps in the book, and also one stamp from an independent Mercedes
specialist in Loddon, Norfolk.
In September 2010 and March 2011 he took it to Mercedes-Benz of Norwich with instructions
to sort out any outstanding items, which resulted in invoices totalling £2,520
which are on file. The servicing and MoT records show that the car has been
quite sparingly used in recent years, with only around 20,000 miles covered in
the last five years.
As well as always being properly maintained the car has been very well
looked after physically. Every aspect of bodywork, paint, glass, wheels and
trim are immaculate, with no detectable wear to the interior appointments.
From behind the wheel the impression is of smooth silent perfection, with
ample space and every comfort for four passengers over any distance. Cruising
is absolutely effortless and acceleration very impressive, with just a distant
V8 growl when progress becomes more urgent. By contrast, slow speed handling is
very precise, and thanks to the very tight turning circle, speed sensitive
power steering and light throttle the car feels much smaller than it really is
when maneuvering. This is a very special car, and one which will be a lasting
pleasure for its new owner.
We have commissioned a comprehensive mechanical check of the car by our independent
Mercedes specialist. Any faults found have been remedied, and any required
maintenance has been carried out. Invoices for this work will be supplied with
the car, along with our own warranty, details of which can be supplied on
request.
