This lovely coupe looks very sharp in the classic Signal Red, which suits
the shape very well and contrasts perfectly with the unmarked cream interior.
It is quite well specified for a car of this model, including the rarely specified
option of ABS, which is a reassuring thing to have on a
classic car which will be used in modern traffic conditions.
The car was supplied by Lancaster Europa Ltd of Sheffield
in October 1984 to a local engineering company, presumably as a company car for
one of their directors. They kept it for exactly two years and it covered
22,000 miles during their ownership.
The second and latest owner, a Mercedes-Benz technician also from Sheffield,
now retired, purchased it directly from the first owners and has owned it until
now, having added a further 38,000 miles to the overall tally during his 25
years of ownership.
Servicing with the first owner was by the supplying dealer, with four of
their stamps in the book and all invoices present and correct, including those
for non-scheduled repairs. After that the latest owner has carried out all oil,
filter, antifreeze and brake fluid changes himself, along with all
non-scheduled maintenance and repairs. These are documented in detail in a
handwritten log along with the parts invoices for all purchases and a recent signed
statement confirming his professional status as a retired Mercedes-Benz
technician. The latest service was less than 1,500 miles ago, but as this was three
years ago we will be having it done again before delivery. In addition to the full
maintenance log we also have every old MoT certificate except one, and both
invoices from each time it was sold, the new car invoice being in the sum of
just over £16,500.
It can be seen from the MoT records that after its initial 10,000 miles
p.a. for the two years with its first owner it then settled into a regular
pattern of between 2,000 and 3,000 miles p.a. until 2004. After this the
pattern changed significantly, with only 100 to 200 miles p.a. being covered to
date, but the car was always kept with a current MoT and tax, ready for
immediate use. It has been garaged for its entire life, and despite its very
low mileage it has always been regularly exercised. It looks like new in every
respect. Paintwork, chrome, weather seals etc are all pristine and the interior
is perfect. The engine bay is very clean. We have driven it around 150 miles
and can confirm that it drives like a new car.
We have commissioned a comprehensive mechanical
check of the car by our independent Mercedes-Benz specialist. Any faults found
have been remedied, and any required maintenance has been carried out (see
above). Invoices for this work will be supplied with the car, along with our
own warranty, details of which can be supplied on request.
