Where can we start when describing this extremely desirable motor car? Firstly, whilst the W124 coupe is not the very rarest Mercedes model of this era, it is most certainly the rarest to be found in as-new condition with such a low mileage covered. The simple reason is that they are such capable and enjoyable cars to drive that owners tend to rack up the miles without really noticing.
The condition of this car is what most people would describe as mint, though it is a term we don't like to use as no 18 year old car can truly be indistinguishable from new. Having said that you would be hard pressed to find a mark on it anywhere, and having driven it over 200 miles we can say that it really does look, feel, smell and drive like a new car. It does not have a high spec, e.g. no air conditioning, cruise control or electric seats, but we can have air conditioning fitted if required at a cost of £1,600 + VAT.
It was bought new by a gentleman in Essex in August 1992 and the second and latest owner was a business colleague of his from Exeter who bought it from him in December 2003. It has four stamps in the book by the supplying MB dealer from its time with its first owner and two non-franchised stamps from a trusted local garage near Exeter who look after all the cars owned by the second owner. All servicing has been done at correct mileage intervals. We have had it serviced by our independent MB specialist. It has a new MoT and several old MoT certificates in the file, together with the original new car sales brochure.
The car looks very elegant in the subtle metallic burgundy colour with the darker lower panels, which is absolutely unmarked. This is complemented perfectly by the pristine cream leather interior, the surfaces of which still have that new car look and feel. It was a privilege to drive it the 200 miles or so from its original home, and we can confirm that it operates faultlessly, with all controls feeling tight and new.
This must be one of the last opportunities to acquire a hardly-used E Class coupe for a sensible sum, now that the model's peerless build quality and classic status have been well and truly recognised. Regardless of whether the new owner keeps it as a low mileage gem or uses it sparingly as an everyday car it will deliver many years of pleasurable returns, far in excess of its modest purchase price. We hope to see it regularly scooping up silverware in concours competitions for years to come.
We have commissioned a comprehensive mechanical check of the car by our independent Mercedes specialist. Any faults found have been remedied, and any required maintenance has been carried out (see above). Invoices for this work will be supplied with the car, along with our own warranty, details of which can be supplied on request.
